An Open Letter to Dan Rather, Elliot Kirschner, and the Patriarchal Media

If not, watch this 2 minute video. Read this short blog post from Dan Rather’s substack: Steady. “Shaken: This seems surreal. But it’s all too real.” is concise which I am not. It hit my inbox first, and I read it and immediately wanted to share it.
And then I thought about it…
Dear Mr. Rather,
Look, I admire you. I liked the way you make the gravity of the situation register, and I appreciate your way of storytelling. You are an excellent journalist, and, you’re still a man.
“Surreal”?? Now?!
Respectfully Dan, miss me with your g.d. shock.
These people are sexual predators and White Supremacists. How is just now resulting in you shaken? We’ve been shaking since 2015. We saw the “right”-ing on the wall. Literally an Wapo Op Ed in 2017 said, ostensibly, “We told you so.”
When he said he grabbed a woman by the pu$$y and we all freaked out…and y’all said, oh that’s locker room talk, did you think we were overreacting? When we cried for a week during the Kavanaugh hearing, and then a week after that, were we just being emotional? When we watched the way they treated Justice Ketanji Brown vs. the way they treated Amy Coney Barrett, were we a bit too sensitive?
Rape culture, racism, and misogyny is at the heart of this. It’s violent because it is all about power and subjugation, and by any means necessary. It is baffling that people didn’t see that immediately.
The power hungry see other people as resources, as property.
If you can take another person’s body (either forced sex, coercion, or forced pregnancy) what world do you have any respect for anyone, at any time, anywhere. Their world view…
